Noise Monitoring Equipment To Collect Data at Burlington International Airport
SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt., August 11, 2021 – Burlington International Airport’s (BTV) Sound Insulation Program (Program) moves forward with installation of two outdoor noise monitoring systems. The units have been installed in the cities of South Burlington and Winooski, and plans for a third unit in Williston are underway. The units will collect noise data to provide an accurate depiction of noise levels produced from BTV airport operations. The system is expected to be fully operational in September 2021.
BTV is home to the Vermont Air National Guard that operates F-35A aircraft, and is one of two civil-military airports that Jones Payne represents. Installation of the noise monitoring systems comes in response to community members expressing concerns about increased noise associated with the military operations.
As part of BTV’s expanded Program, more than 2,600 residential homes located within the Airport’s defined sound insulation contours may receive acoustical treatments, weatherization and energy efficiency work. Construction for positive ventilation upgrades at Chamberlin Elementary School began in May 2021.
