BOSTON, MA, December 4, 2020 – A message from John Hansen, President & CEO of The Jones Payne Group:
Michael K. Payne, AIA NCARB, will retire from The Jones Payne Group, Inc. (Jones Payne) at the end of 2020 thereby completing a 34-year career. Mike has dedicated his career to fostering excellence in service to the firm’s clients and to improving the quality of life for the firm’s employees and their families.
Mike, together with Randy Jones, FAIA, cofounded Jones Payne. Their partnership began at CityDesign Collaborative (City Design) in 1986 where they worked together on projects that focused on building livable communities. They subsequently left CityDesign and founded Jones Payne Architects and Planners in April of 1996 with a goal of creating a firm that specialized in the field of transportation-related noise mitigation. In 2001, the company was rebranded as The Jones Payne Group to recognize the diversity of architecture and program management services that the firm had expanded to provide.
As a leader and an innovator, Mike is known for his interdisciplinary approach to providing architectural services. He was a driving force in establishing Jones Payne as a major player in the noise mitigation industry. In 2010, the American Association of Airport Executives recognized Mike’s achievements, selecting him as a recipient of the Randy Jones Award for Excellence in Airport Noise Mitigation, Abatement and Management.
In 2018, Mike took a step back to serve as Chairman of the Board and handed over the day-to-day operations of the firm to John Hansen, who since then has served as Jones Payne’s President and CEO. John has worked side-by-side with Mike over a 24-year period, helping to expand the reputation of Jones Payne across the country, gaining the trust of clients and professional colleagues alike. John’s partners, Diane Carter, Jerry Osborn, Andrew Walter, and Eric Raboin are working alongside John to ensure the continued success of the firm.
“Our team will miss Mike’s leadership and sound judgement. We wish him all the best for his retirement, and we hope he enjoys time with his family and friends”, says John Hansen. “Mike and Randy created a culture of community service here at Jones Payne. We are all humbled to be a part of the special practice they created, and we are committed to honoring, continuing and growing their enduring legacy.”
