Jones Payne Develops Updates to United States Navy’s Sound Insulation Guidelines
BOSTON, Mass., March 19, 2019 – Jones Payne worked with Blue Ridge Research and Consulting, LLC and the United States Department of the Navy’s Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) to update the Navy’s Sound Insulation Guidelines (Guidelines), including the Sound Insulation Estimator (Estimator), which is an online tool that helps homeowners select appropriate sound insulating materials for their home. Based on the user-selected data, the Estimator calculates the upgrades recommended to achieve the target noise level reduction and provides the approximate materials and labor costs for the sound installation. Jones Payne served as a sub-consultant, responsible for the design, development and implementation of the cost-estimating application. The NAVFAC Guidelines provide an overview of sound insulation techniques for individuals living near military airfields who are interested in modifying an existing home or constructing a new building that incorporates sound insulating principles. Its intent is to address a wide-range of common building types and give practical, cost-effective measures to reduce noise impacts.
