FORT LAUDERDALE, FL, May 20, 2019 – The Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) Noise Mitigation Team celebrates the completion of 1,000 sound-insulated homes and 500 conveyance and release agreements.
The FLL Noise Mitigation Program is comprised of two elements – a sound insulation program (RSI Program) and an easement acquisition program known as the Conveyance and Release Program (CAR Program). The Jones Payne Group provided program management and design and construction services for the RSI Program and program controls services for the CAR Program.
At the beginning of May 2019, two major milestones of the overall program were reached. The RSI Program completed construction on 1,000 homes, and as of today, we have completed 1,023 of the 1,224 homes in the project.
The RSI Program began in 2012 as the result of an Environmental Impact Study (ESI) for the extension of the south runway at FLL. During that time, there have been a number of obstacles to overcome, including changes in FAA regulations and updates to FEMA flood insurance maps, causing the program to start and stop numerous times. Since the beginning of this year, 196 homes have completed construction. The Program is anticipated to complete construction of the remaining 201 homes by August. This is an average of 50 homes per month. Needless to say, the FLL team is a bit weary.
The CAR Program offers a cash payment to owners of single-family and two-family homes located in the 65 and higher DNL noise contour in exchange for a conveyance and release agreement. The CAR Program estimates 639 properties may be eligible for this program.
