JP worked closely with the Town of Southbridge, MA (Southbridge) to restore and refurbish the façade of the Hartwell Building, a historic structure located in the town’s downtown revitalization area. JP performed all design services to include an existing conditions assessment of the façade including windows, doors, storefront, signage, wood cornice, and brick veneer. Using historical photos documenting the building’s evolution, JP recreated the design of the historical quality of the façade.
Southbridge received a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to fund the project. The Hartwell building, built in 1864 by Dr. Samuel Hartwell for use as a pharmacy, was the first building to be included in the CDBG. The building is mixed-use with business on the first floor and residential units located above.
