The Phoenix Aviation Department owns and operates three airports: Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, Phoenix Deer Valley Airport and Phoenix Goodyear Airport. Phoenix Sky Harbor is one of the top ten busiest in the U.S. for passenger traffic. Deer Valley and Goodyear Airports are general aviation airports. In response to community concerns about airport noise for local residents, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved an airport noise compatibility study for Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The results of the study led to the Federal Aviation Regulation Part 150, Airport Noise Compatibility Planning program, which included noise mitigation and land planning recommendations. The report included 32 measures that were designed to prevent non-compatible land uses and reduce the effect of the noise generated at the airport.
