Liturgical Design
Visions
"Where two or more are gathered in my name, there I am also." A worship space begins where we gather together and perform a communal act of reaching toward God, and thus one another. The symbols and actions of worship mediate deeper meanings into the every day. Architecture, from the smallest detail to the creation of space, can help provide a place to touch the transcendent mysteries that worship points us towards. From the first house-church to the great expanses of modern glass and steel, people have sought a place set aside for worship, to remember.
At Jones Payne we believe the community is enlivened by the spaces that inspire us to reach out towards one another. The act of communal worship in itself requires a sense of vision that expands beyond the purely personal and private. We offer our design talent, construction expertise and dedication to helping your community of faith discern and construct its vision.
Design
As part of our firm's goal to support livable communities, The Jones Payne Liturgical Design Group provides the tools to translate your congregation's visions into reality. At Jones Payne we speak the complex languages of liturgy, public process, architecture and construction. We recognize that most pastors and congregations do not renovate or build regularly, so we are dedicated to understanding your goals in order to achieve a successful project.
Articulating your vision is integral to the design process we engage for each community; thereby each project is customized to its context and budget.
Planning
Whether your project is a large campus or a small renovation, planning is essential to a successful completion. Most congregations have many members and contributors to coordinate and inform. Also many faith practices incorporate consensus on a building project as part of their ministry. Incorporating the techniques of planning will insure the best use of resources, and a thorough review of options.
These techniques include:
- Campus and land use planning
- Multiple site evaluations
- Preparation for fundraising
- Financial projections and budgeting
- Master Planning - Phased work
- Temporary facilities
- Evaluation and programming of space needs
Workshops
There are no problems, only opportunities.
There are many steps on the way to a building or renovation project. The project is an opportunity to express ideas members have been generating while worshipping and living with their liturgy or building. Channeling this creative energy in a manner that achieves a cohesive result requires effort on the part of building committees and pastors. We can provide professional assistance with those efforts. Let us help you facilitate productive discussions within your community.
Jones Payne believes that the process of facilitating decision-making starts with educational and liturgical workshops. We can assist your congregation in building a foundation for its discussions by designing a workshop program to fit your needs. Building consensus on project goals leads to a more satisfying and less costly construction process.
