Schools
While the breadth of our noise mitigation experience involves residential work, we have sound insulated several schools over the years. Reducing aircraft noise in the classroom has made a huge improvement in the learning environment for thousands of school children across the nation. Kids in Boston, Detroit, Warwick and Baton Rouge alike, are now able to concentrate on their studies, not the disruptive sound of airplanes, thanks to AIP funding provided by the FAA.
Not surprisingly, the lion’s share of this funding has been going to the areas with the nation’s most active airports, such as Chicago and New York/New Jersey. But whether an airport has one or one hundred schools within its contours, the basic goal is to provide, as teachers tell their students “quiet in the classroom!”
Sound insulating a school can be challenging from both the design and construction standpoint, considering all the building codes, and standard requirements in place. Coordinating the insulation process while accommodating the schedules of school administrators, parent-teacher organizations, teachers and students can also be complicated. What a small price to pay however, if it is affords children a more conducive atmosphere to learn, grow and build the foundations for a successful and fulfilling life.
